“ทุกบทมีจังหวะคุ้นเคยเหมือนพิธีเล็ก ๆ เพื่อให้รู้ว่าเรากำลังยืนอยู่ตรงไหน เริ่มจาก ถ้อยคำหนึ่งคู่ ที่ผมจะเรียกว่า "ตะเกียง 2 ดวง" ดวงหนึ่งจากโลกตะวันตก ส่วนอีกดวงหนึ่งจากโลกพุทธและวิถีไทยที่หล่อเลี้ยงผมมา ชีวิตผมเติบโตใต้แสงทั้งสองสาย และตะเกียงสองดวงย่อมช่วยกันลดเงามืดได้ดีกว่าดวงเดียว”

“Every life is one day long.” The book tells one life as one day of light — 21 short chapters in three parts of seven: Morning for the life, Noon for the work, Twilight for what has been internalized — framed by a prologue, three codas, an epilogue, “The Twenty-One Questions to Carry”, and a mirrored English–Thai glossary, “A Small Dictionary of Thai Light”. Illustrated.

“Every chapter keeps the same quiet ritual. It opens with two lamps — a pair of epigraphs, one from the West, one from the Buddhist and Thai world that raised me — because my life was trained in both lights, and because two lamps throw fewer shadows than one.”

Each chapter also keeps a deliberate opening — a story window, left for a true story to be told live at the lecture. In the book's own words: “A last lecture must be made of true stories, and the true stories are mine to tell and yours to demand. Everything else is finished.”

The book's About-the-Author page calls it “his last lecture, and his second book written for everyone”.
